Content Writers, or Content Creators, are responsible for using the written word to share information about a client’s products, services or industry. Their duties include preparing document outlines, updating content based on client edit requests and proofreading their work for tone, style, clarity, grammar and formatting. Content Writers work for marketing agencies and in-house advertising departments to product engaging written pieces for digital and print media. Content Writers can write on a range of subjects, which their clients can then use to advertise their services or educate consumers on relevant topics to their brand. They master different style guides and are able to produce creative writing, informational articles, fictional stories, personal blog posts and other entertaining or educational content. Their role is to attract potential customers to a brand by producing compelling writing that a business’ target market may be interested in reading about.
Good Content Writers should be adaptable and flexible to take on the challenge of writing in a multitude of styles and voices. They use creativity to capture a client’s brand and image using various language patterns and slang or jargon. Successful Content Writers are fast learners who work well under pressure and are able to produce a fast turnaround for clients on a tight deadline. Good Content Writers have a strong understanding of grammar rules so they can effortlessly produce readable, consistent content. They are meticulous and detail-oriented, preventing typos or awkward language from being sent to a client. Research skills enable you to get to the root of a topic, allowing you to write authentic, up-to-date and detailed content. You can consider enrolling in a research class to gain these skills or work on various research projects to hone your skills. A content writer with excellent written communication skills can easily capture the attention of recruiters. Working as a content writer may require you to work on multiple projects or change your focus from one project to work on the most urgent one. This requires you to be adaptable and resilient. Many writing projects have a timeline within which a content writer can submit the job and it’s essential that you manage your time to meet deadlines. Some projects may take a day or two, while others can take a week to a month, depending on the volume of work.
Earning a degree is usually optional to become a content writer, but it may be beneficial. Many people who become content writers have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, English, creative writing or communication. Typical duties of a Controller

• Conducting research on any given topic
• Optimizing articles for SEO and accessibility
• Writing engaging content for blogs, ebooks, case studies, video scripts, infographics and other assets
• Identifying gaps in content and recommending new topics
• Editing content to ensure voice, grammar and style is on point
• Creating and scheduling posts for multiple social media channels
• Staying up to date on industry trends to support content development
• Distilling complex concepts and language into content that is easily understood
• Working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging, branding and style
• Managing and completing work on time for multiple content writing projects
• Working with content strategists to build editorial calendars
