Controller Job Description
The human resources coordinator works closely together with the HR director or manager and also works with hiring managers, recruiters, and other HR personnel to ensure that the organization’s HR policies, processes, and practices are as efficient and high-performing as possible. An HR Coordinator, or Human Resources Coordinator, completes clerical duties for an organization’s human resources department. Their main duties include providing administrative support to employees, assisting the HR Manager with recruiting candidates to fill open roles and providing assistance with payroll processing functions.
HR coordinators regularly interact with employees. Strong interpersonal skills allow HR professionals to better communicate and coordinate with others effectively and efficiently. HR coordinators need strong communication skills to perform well in their positions as they are constantly communicating in various forms with others. They must be able to convey information in a successful and easy-to-understand manner and answer concerns and questions from company staff and job applicants. Good decision-making skills for HR coordinators include intuition, reasoning and problem-solving skills. HR coordinators are often in charge of employee-related data and must maintain organized employee records. Time management skills help individuals stay organized and effectively manage their time throughout the workday. HR coordinators often use various types of online programs and systems to maintain records and perform their tasks. They must have a solid understanding of Microsoft Office and experience using human resource information systems (HRIS) and HR databases.
Most organizations require their HR coordinators to have at least a bachelor’s degree in human resources, finance, business management, business administration or a related field. Many HR coordinators also hold master’s degrees in human resource management, business administration or a related subject. Graduate programs provide HR professionals with a solid understanding of functional operations of organizations, business administration and decision processes related to HR management. HR coordinators may also choose to pursue a certification in human resource management. The most recognized certifications include the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) certified professional certification, SHRM senior certified professional certification and certifications offered by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).
• Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
• Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
• Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
• Submits online investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
• Reconciles benefits statements.
• Conducts audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.
• Assists with processing of terminations.
• Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
• Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
• Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by the director of HR.
• Makes photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions.
• Files documents into appropriate employee files.
• Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
• Prepares new-employee files.
• Processes mail.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
