Security engineerSecurity engineers keep sensitive data safe from breaches, taps, and leaks. These professionals protect organizational data, reputations, and finances. They secure client information, financial records, and other confidential information.
To accomplish this goal, security engineers typically work with a team of other cybersecurity professionals. This includes penetration testers, security analysts, and technology managers.
Cybersecurity engineers detect, investigate, and prevent attacks. They resolve problems with technology such as IT software and equipment. Specifically, security engineers install firewalls, implement breach detection systems, and work with other professionals to solve security-related problems.
Typical duties of a Controller
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Understanding complex technical issues and managing them within a fast-paced business environment
• Maintaining all the software and hardware in relation to security
• Documenting security certification
• Identifying current and emerging technology issues including security trends, vulnerabilities, and threats
• Threat intelligence
• Sourcing and implementing new security solutions to better protect the organization
• Conducting proactive research to analyze security weaknesses and recommend appropriate strategies
• Liaising with vendors to implement security solutions
Essential skills:
• Extensive knowledge of operating system and database security
• Proficiency in networking technologies, network security and network monitoring solutions
• Knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems and intrusion detection and notification systems
• In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles
• Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field
• Five or more years’ work experience as a System Security Engineer or related position
• Proven experience developing, operating, and maintaining security systems
